Little Mav's Learning Center Breaking Down Barriers for Mental Health Services
Wellness for employees is essential to provide the most benefit for your company and your clients. Many companies provide resources through a benefit package that include insurance and EAP programs to support their employees in getting the medical and mental health needs met. While these benefits are great, they also don’t remove barriers that stop many people from accessing services, including mental health services.
Barriers to mental health services or counseling in general can include:
Access to insurance
Co-pays for insurance
Finances in general
Lack of time
Work Obligations
Lack of support from family or partner
Transportation
The list could go on for some people.
Little Mav’s Learning Center has seen the barriers that their staff struggle with and has taken the wellness of their employees into their own hands. They petitioned for and were awarded a grant from The State of Colorado that allowed them to partner with Thrive Marriage & Family Counseling and together a program has been developed specific to the needs of their staff.
The partnership between Little Mav’s and Thrive is proving to show positive effects for the staff. Supporting the staff is happening in many ways and is aimed to make the biggest impact for their team. Thrive has developed an 8 week group andeach group led by a different therapist at Little Mavs . Each therapist focuses on a topic related to the wellness of a person and provides tools, psychoeducation and goal planning to help the staff consider ways that they could improve even one part of their daily lives.
Along with the groups, the partnership is also allowing for their staff to access a limited number of sessions for each of their staff at Thrive Marriage & Family Counseling. In these sessions, therapists are able to help the staff get coping skills, tools and specific support in order to move toward a high level of wellness.
Thrive has also been able to provide small group intervention in order to increase staff interactions, conflict management and tools in solving problems in their classrooms. Which has proved to increase staff retention.
Thrive Marriage & Family Counseling is honored to partner with Little Mav’s in this highly innovative way to ensure that their staff is getting the support they need by literally removing the barriers in getting the services they need. We are skipping insurance, we are skipping EAP, we are going to them, Little Mav’s is supporting staff coming to us during their operating hours, and we are eliminating excuses to ensure the staff at Little Mav’s are getting the support they need. The impact is huge, if staff are happier and healthier, they stay in their jobs longer. If they stay in their jobs longer, your kids are getting the consistency they need while they are in their care. It is clear that Little Mav’s Learning Center is passionate about their employees and the children they are caring for because they accept no excuses for doing what is best for all of them.
