Tylor McGowan
Marriage & Family Therapist Candidate
A little about Tylor.
Greetings! I am a passionate human on an extraordinary journey, balancing the roles of a devoted father, a loving husband, and a dedicated therapist with a candidacy license. Having called the Grand Valley home for over 20 years, I’ve grown deeply connected to this community and its people. In 2024, I graduated from Colorado Christian University, where my love for learning and personal growth shaped my path and prepared me for the incredible privilege of walking alongside others in their healing journeys.
Through the joys and challenges of fatherhood, marriage, and education, I’ve discovered a deep calling to support others as they navigate life’s complexities. My experiences have taught me the value of resilience, empathy, and grace; all qualities I strive to bring into every interaction. As a therapist, my focus is on creating a safe, compassionate space where individuals, couples, and families can explore, heal, and grow together.
Why clients choose to see Tylor.
What would it feel like to step into a space where your story is heard, your struggles are understood, and your relationships, whether with others or yourself, can begin to heal and grow? My focus is always on creating a safe, supportive space where individuals, couples, and families feel empowered to write a new chapter in their story. I know how complicated relationships can be, whether it’s navigating trust, blending families, finding the right words to express yourself, or feeling disconnected. Life’s challenges, though difficult, are also opportunities for growth, and I bring this understanding into every session to help you uncover what’s most important and real in your life.
In our time together, you can expect a collaborative and compassionate approach. I believe in the power of stories—how they shape who we are and how we connect with others. My goal is to help you untangle the parts of your story that keep you stuck while uncovering the strengths and values that will guide you forward. Whether we’re working through trust issues in your relationship or helping a blended family find harmony, I focus on building connection, resilience, and hope for the future.
For couples and families, I offer practical tools to support healthier relationships. Couples often come to me to rebuild trust, navigate insecurities, develop communication skills, or prepare for marriage. We’ll work together on communication strategies, emotional regulation skills, and conflict management tools to strengthen your connection and help you feel more confident in your relationship. Families, whether blended, separated, or seeking to connect at a deeper level, are beautifully complex, and I work to ensure every member feels valued, heard, and respected as we work toward greater harmony and mutual understanding.
Above all, I want you to know you don’t have to face these challenges alone. Relationships take work, but they are among the most rewarding parts of life. It’s an honor to walk with you on this journey, helping you build the connection, trust, and love you’re seeking. Together, we’ll focus on what matters most and equip you with the skills to create a healthier, more fulfilling future filled with meaningful relationships.
Tylor is supervised by Chantel Landeros, LMFT.
My Specialties
The Stories We Tell
I specialize in a narrative approach to therapy, helping individuals, couples, and families explore the stories that have shaped their lives over time. These stories are often deeply rooted, woven from personal experiences, cultural influences, and relationships. Some stories may feel like they've been with you forever, passed down or reinforced through years of repetition. Others may have been embellished over time, growing larger and more impactful than they need to be. Meanwhile, some of the most important parts of your story—your strengths, successes, and resilience—may have been minimized or overlooked.
Together, we’ll examine these narratives, gently untangling the threads to uncover what’s helpful and what’s holding you back. By bringing awareness to the old stories, we can explore how they’ve influenced your emotions, behaviors, and relationships. More importantly, we’ll work to rewrite these narratives in ways that align with your values, goals, and hopes for the future. Through this process, I aim to empower you to reclaim the authorship of your life, creating a story of resilience, connection, and growth that feels true to who you are and who you want to become.
Couples and Families
Every relationship functions as part of a larger social system. Often conflicts or disconnections arise when the system is out of balance. My goal is to help you uncover those patterns, address underlying issues, and create healthier ways to connect and communicate. In our work together, we’ll focus on developing practical tools for managing conflict, improving communication, and strengthening emotional regulation. For couples, this might mean learning how to navigate trust issues, resolve insecurities, or prepare for the next stage of your relationship. For families, it could involve exploring how to navigate blended households, manage changes from separation or divorce, or rebuild trust and connection.
I believe that even small shifts in behavior or understanding can create powerful, positive ripple effects throughout your family or partnership. By fostering empathy, collaboration, and mutual respect, we’ll work toward creating a system where each person feels valued and supported. Together, we’ll build the skills and strategies needed to help your relationships thrive.
Anxiety and Depression
Utilizing an integrative approach to addressing anxiety and depression, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These challenges can feel overwhelming, but I believe healing begins with understanding the unique ways anxiety and depression impact your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. My approach is tailored to meet your specific needs, providing practical tools and compassionate support to help you regain a sense of balance and control.
My goal is to help you not only manage symptoms but also develop a deeper understanding of yourself and your journey. Together, we’ll work to untangle the thoughts and patterns that have kept you stuck, while fostering self-compassion, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose. You don’t have to face this alone; I’m here to walk alongside you as you build a path toward a more fulfilling, grounded, and hopeful future.
